Our founder, Eliseu Frazão, participated in the round table entitled “Strategies for Carbon Neutrality – the challenges of the Green Transition”, within the scope of the event “Green Horizon: Sustainability of the Mineral Resources Sector” that took place at the Stone Ibérica fair, at exponor (Porto), on March 28, 2025.
Organized by ACPMR – CLUSTER PORTUGAL MINERAL RESOURCES ASSOCIATION and ASSIMAGRA – PORTUGUESE MINERAL RESOURCES INDUSTRY ASSOCIATION, the conference brought together companies from the sector, partners and guests. For Marta Peres, Executive Director of the Cluster, this type of initiative is important to showcase the best the sector has to offer and to demystify the idea that the exploration of mineral resources is a polluting area. “These events are very important, firstly because the subject of decarbonization is new and there are still many doubts surrounding it. And the truth is that decarbonization and environmental sustainability bring savings to companies, which spend less, consume less and achieve more.”
The roundtable conversation, moderated by Observador host João Miguel Santos, was joined by Eliseu Frazão, founder of FRAVIZEL, João Carlos Santos, from STET, Frederico Cardoso, from STONECITI – DigitalBuilt and Maria João Pereira, professor at IST- Instituto Superior Técnico and former Secretary of State for Energy.
For Eliseu Frazão, decarbonization is a growing priority, but there is still a lot to be done. “Decarbonization is not just about having solutions that sometimes don’t reach the market as quickly as they should. It involves doing a lot with a little.” He adds that “there needs to be communication between everyone and to improve processes as quickly as possible, and for that, investment is needed”.
Finally, this event also featured the awarding of the "Mineral Ressources - For Better Life" awards in the following categories: decarbonization and energy efficiency (winner: Solancis), circular economy, waste management and recycling (Rocking), innovation for sustainability (Redcorp), environmental sustainability (Filstone), social and community responsibility (Somincor), economic sustainability (Marfilpe).
According to Marta Peres, Executive Director of the Cluster, “it was very important for companies to understand that they are rewarded for practices that today are called good practices, but which they have been doing for many decades”. The aim is for the awards to be given every two years to the most innovative and sustainable companies in the sector.
